Google Ads for Shopify stores

Google Ads for a Shopify store means getting your products into Merchant Center cleanly, counting real purchases, and running Shopping, Performance Max and Search on that data. We set it up, fix what the Google & YouTube app does not cover, and manage the campaigns for a fixed monthly fee.

Audit €199 · launch €590 · management from €250 a month · Google Ads only

Google Partner since 2015. We are a member of the Shopify Partner Program.

How Shopify connects to Google, in short

If you want to try it yourself first, this is the order that works.

  1. 1 Install the Google & YouTube app from the Shopify App Store and sign in with your Google account.
  2. 2 Check the store requirements: the store is not password protected, has a payment provider, shows a refund policy, terms of service and contact information.
  3. 3 Link or create a Merchant Center account. The app syncs your products, shipping and tax settings, and claims your store domain for that account.
  4. 4 Open Merchant Center and read the product statuses. Fix disapprovals at the source, in Shopify.
  5. 5 Link Google Ads, turn on purchase tracking and place a test order before any budget goes out.

We do all five for you on the Launch package, and check them first in the Audit.

Where the app stops being enough

The app is a good start for a small catalog. Stores usually outgrow it in these places.

  • Products disapproved for reasons the app only reports: price mismatches, missing GTIN or brand, shipping or return details.
  • Titles and categories that come straight from the Shopify catalog, written for the storefront, not for search.
  • No way to split the budget by margin: every product competes for the same money.
  • Purchase counts in Google Ads that do not match Shopify orders, and enhanced conversions that were never set up.
  • Several countries through Shopify Markets, each with its own currency, shipping and language in the feed.
  • An app reinstall or a change of data source. Afterwards we compare product IDs and per-product history, so a lost history is caught at once.

Prices

What is not included

  • Other ad platforms. We run Google Ads only.
  • Your ad budget. Google bills it to your card directly.
  • Building the store or the theme.
  • Organic search. That is our separate Shopify SEO service.

Your accounts stay yours

Google Ads and Merchant Center are in your name. We work through manager access, so if we stop working together you keep the account, its history, audiences and tracking.

What we need to start: a collaborator account to your Shopify store with the permissions the work needs, access to Merchant Center, Google Ads and Google Analytics by invitation, and your own card on the Google Ads account. We never ask for passwords.

Typical Merchant Center problems in Shopify stores

Price in the feed does not match the product page. What we doWe find where the two disagree (sale prices, currency, taxes) and fix it in Shopify, where the feed comes from.
Missing shipping or return details. What we doWe set them per country, so products are not limited or disapproved for missing information.
Missing or wrong GTIN. What we doWe add barcodes where products have them, and use the identifier exemption for custom or handmade items that do not.
Store does not meet the basics. What we doWe check the policy pages, contact details and checkout that Google and Shopify require before products can show.
Stock shown as available when it is sold out. What we doWe compare availability in the feed with the storefront and set checks for fast-selling items.
Domain claimed by another Merchant Center account. What we doWe move the claim to the account connected to Shopify.
Changes made in Merchant Center keep disappearing. What we doShopify data, delivery settings included, can overwrite manual edits, so we make changes in Shopify or through a supplemental feed.

When we would tell you to wait

Ad budget under €500 a month: the Google & YouTube app on its own is usually enough, and we will say so.

The store does not meet Google's basics yet: products will not show until it does, so that comes first.

Only a handful of sales a month: Performance Max has too little data, so we start with Shopping and Search.

Process

How the work goes

1

Step 1. Express review

A call of up to twenty minutes. We look at your store and Merchant Center, name up to three problems and tell you whether the audit, the launch or nothing at all is the right next step. No written report at this stage.

2

Step 2. Feed and tracking

The products get approved and the purchases get counted correctly before any campaign spends money.

3

Step 3. Campaigns

Shopping, Search and, when the data allows, Performance Max, split by product group and margin.

4

Step 4. Report

A live dashboard and a monthly summary of what changed, why, and what comes next.

What we can show

We do not have published Shopify case studies yet, and we will not rename other work as Shopify results. What we can show is a Merchant Center feed diagnostic sample and a case from another online store, below. Neither was built on Shopify.

Frequently Asked Questions

Connecting Shopify to Google

How do I connect Shopify to Google Ads?
Install the Google & YouTube app from the Shopify App Store, sign in with Google, link or create a Merchant Center account and a Google Ads account, and set up billing. Then turn on purchase tracking and place a test order before you start a campaign. We do this for you on the Launch package.
Do I need Google Merchant Center for a Shopify store?
Yes, for Shopping and Performance Max with products. Merchant Center is where Google reads your catalog, and the Google & YouTube app keeps it in sync with Shopify, so you do not build a separate feed to start.
Is the Google & YouTube app enough, or do I need an agency?
For a small catalog with clean data and a budget under about €500 a month, the app is often enough. An agency helps when products are disapproved, purchase counts look wrong, margins differ a lot between products, or the budget needs steady management.
Why do my changes in Merchant Center keep disappearing?
Shopify sends your product data and store settings to Merchant Center, and that data can overwrite manual edits, delivery settings included. Make product changes in Shopify, and use a supplemental feed for anything Shopify cannot express.
Can I use my existing Merchant Center account with Shopify?
Yes, but check what the sync will replace first: Shopify sends its own products, shipping and tax settings, and claims your domain for the connected account. We review the account before connecting it.
Which countries can I advertise in from Shopify?
The Google & YouTube channel works only in certain countries and currencies, which Google lists in its Merchant Center help. We check your target markets against that list before planning campaigns.
Can a change to the app affect my Shopping data?
It can. Google replaced its older product API in 2026, and merchants have reported product ID changes after reinstalling the app. When an item's ID changes, Google treats it as a new product. Before any reinstall or data source change, we record product IDs and history, and compare them afterwards.

Feed and disapprovals

Why are my Shopify products disapproved in Merchant Center?
The common causes are a price that differs from the product page, missing shipping or return details, a missing or wrong GTIN, images that break policy, and stale availability. We read the reason for each item, fix it in Shopify or the feed, and keep watching the account. If the cause is the store itself, such as missing policy pages, a rebuild is a separate project: online store development.
Do I need GTINs for Shopify products?
Where a product has a manufacturer barcode, Google expects the GTIN, and a missing or wrong one can get the product disapproved. Custom or handmade items without a barcode can use Google's identifier exemption, which we set up.
How do I fix product feed sync issues?
Check the sync status in the app and the item list in Merchant Center, compare price and stock between Shopify and the feed, and edit the product in Shopify to push a fresh update. Problems that keep coming back usually need a feed rule or a supplemental feed.
Which feed fields matter most for Shopping?
Titles that start with what buyers type, brand, GTIN, product type and Google category, accurate price and availability, and good images. We rewrite titles with rules or a supplemental feed, so your Shopify catalog stays as it is, and use custom labels to group products by margin or season.
How are product variants handled in Google Shopping?
Each variant goes to Google as its own item, grouped with the others, so size, color and other options must be clear in the data. We check that every variant has the right price, image and stock.
How do I advertise in several countries with Shopify Markets?
Each country needs its own currency, shipping, language and policy settings in the feed, and the channel has to support that country. We map your markets to feed settings first, then plan campaigns per country.

Campaigns

Should I use Performance Max or Shopping campaigns?
For many stores a mix works: Standard Shopping gives product control and full search terms, and Performance Max reaches more of Google. We choose the mix from your catalog, margins and data.
How does Performance Max work with a Shopify store?
It uses your product feed, budget and signals to show ads across Google. It needs clean data and controls, such as brand exclusions and search term reviews, so the budget does not go to your own brand searches or poor placements.
What is a good ROAS for a Shopify store?
It depends on your margin, shipping and returns, so one number misleads. We set the target from your margins by product group, and when margins differ a lot we split the budget by margin with custom labels.

Purchase tracking

How do I set up Google Ads conversion tracking on Shopify?
Shopify can add purchase conversions when you connect Google Ads, or you can set them up with the Google tag and Tag Manager. Either way, place test orders and compare the numbers with Shopify before trusting them.
What are enhanced conversions, and do they work with consent rules in the EU?
Enhanced conversions send hashed first-party data, such as the email from checkout, so Google can match sales to ads more reliably. In the EU they must follow your cookie banner, so we set them up together with Consent Mode.
Why do Google Ads and Shopify show different order numbers?
Each system counts and attributes sales differently, a duplicated purchase event can inflate the count, and consent choices hide some orders. We check for duplicates and compare against Shopify orders.

Money and contract

How much does Google Ads management for Shopify cost?
Management costs €250, €490 or €1,090 a month, for ad budgets up to €2,000, €6,000 and €15,000 a month. A one-off audit costs €199, and a launch from scratch costs €590.
What is the minimum ad budget?
We suggest at least €500 a month in ad spend. Below that, the Google & YouTube app on its own is usually enough, and we will tell you so.
Do you take a percentage of ad spend?
No. Our fee is fixed, and your ad budget goes to Google from your own card.
Is there a contract or minimum term?
Monthly rolling, with no long-term lock-in. Cancel any time; the cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month, and we hand everything over in working order.

Accounts and access

Who owns the Google Ads and Merchant Center accounts?
You do. We work through manager access, so you keep the accounts, history, audiences and tracking if we stop working together.
What access do you need to start?
A collaborator account to your Shopify store, access to Merchant Center and Google Ads (or help creating them), and access to Google Analytics. We never ask for passwords.

Results

How long until I see results?
We do not promise a date. Campaigns start once the feed and tracking work, the first weeks produce data, and decisions on bids and budgets follow that data.
Do you have Shopify case studies?
Not yet. We show a Merchant Center feed diagnostic sample and a case from another online store, and we say so openly.
