Shopify SEO for online stores

Shopify SEO is the work of getting your collections and products found in Google's unpaid results, inside the limits the platform sets. We start with a fixed-price audit of your store and, if you want, keep the work going month by month.

Audit from €199 · monthly management from €300 · prices published below

We are a member of the Shopify Partner Program.

What is not included

  • Link building. We do not buy or build external links, in any plan.
  • Building the store or a new theme. We work with the store you have; a migration is covered on the SEO side only.
  • Google Ads. Paid campaigns and Merchant Center are a separate service, Google Ads for E-commerce.

Problems only a Shopify store has

Google ranks a Shopify store by the same rules as any other, but Shopify decides which parts of the store you can change. These are the problems we look for first.

The same product lives at several URLs. A product opened from a collection gets a path like /collections/shoes/products/runner, and variants add ?variant= to the address. What we doWe check that every path points its canonical tag to the main /products/ page and that your theme links to that page, not to the collection path.
URL prefixes are fixed. On a standard Shopify storefront /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/ cannot be renamed or removed. What we doWe work on the parts you control: the handle after the prefix, collection logic and internal links. When a handle changes, we make sure a redirect from the old address exists.
Tag filters create near-duplicate collections. Every tag can open its own filtered collection URL. What we doWe keep the tag pages that have real search demand and a distinct purpose, and keep the rest out of the index.
robots.txt is a theme template. Shopify generates a default file, and you change it through robots.txt.liquid. What we doWe block low-value filter, sort and internal search URLs there, compare the rendered file with the original before publishing, and never use it to hide pages you want indexed.
Apps slow the store down. Each installed app can add scripts to every page, and some keep loading after you uninstall them. What we doWe list what loads on every template and weigh each app by what it brings against what it costs in speed.
The theme writes your structured data. Product and Offer markup comes from the theme, and an app often adds a second copy. What we doWe read the rendered HTML, validate Product and Offer data against Google's documentation and fix it at the source, so there is one correct version.
Markets add URLs per country and language. Shopify generates hreflang tags from your market setup, but translation apps and custom URLs can break them. What we doWe check that every version has matching hreflang and canonical tags, so Google shows the right version in each market.

A headless storefront removes some of these limits and moves the rest into custom code. We audit both, and say which applies to you.

Moving to Shopify without losing your rankings

Shopify has its own URL structure, so almost every address of the old store changes in a move. When traffic drops after a migration, the cause is usually a missing or wrong redirect.

  1. 1 Before the move we crawl the old store and save every indexed URL, title and description.
  2. 2 We map each old product, category, page and article to its new /products/, /collections/, /pages/ or /blogs/ address with a 301 redirect.
  3. 3 Titles, descriptions and page text move to the new store as they are, so Google sees the same content at the new address.
  4. 4 After launch we compare the new crawl and Search Console with the saved one and fix what fell out.

We handle the SEO side of the move. Building the store itself is a separate job.

Who this is for, and when it is too early

Good fit

  • · A store with a real catalog that gets traffic, but whose collections and products do not show up for the searches that sell.
  • · A store that lost traffic after a theme change, a migration or a new Market.
  • · A store that sells in several countries or languages through Shopify Markets.

Too early, and we will say so

  • · The store has no catalog yet, or no own domain.
  • · The store is still on a trial plan and the product range is not settled.
  • · A small catalog on a well-built theme that already gets indexed: the Shopify defaults and a careful hour with the admin may be enough for now.
  • · You need sales this month: SEO builds over months, and Google Ads may be the better first step.

Speed, apps and Markets

On Shopify, slow pages usually come from the theme and the apps that load on every page, since Shopify runs the hosting. Markets are the other big topic: each country or language version needs its own correct hreflang and canonical tags. Both are part of the audit.

Process

How the work goes

1

Step 1. Express review

A call of up to twenty minutes. We name up to three problems we see in your store and tell you whether the audit is worth paying for. No written report at this stage.

2

Step 2. Audit

You give us read-only access, we go through the templates, the index and the apps, and you get a prioritized list of fixes.

3

Step 3. Fixes

Your developer works from the report, or we take the work on in monthly management.

4

Step 4. Report

Each month you see what changed, what we did and what comes next: indexed pages, non-brand clicks, organic orders.

What we can show

We do not have published Shopify case studies yet, and we will not rename other work as Shopify results. What we can show is how we work on online stores: the audit sample and the e-commerce case below. Neither was built on Shopify.

Frequently Asked Questions

Prices and what you get

How much does Shopify SEO cost?
A one-off audit costs €199, €399 or €750, depending on the size of your catalog. Monthly management costs €300, €550 or €750 a month, depending on how much work the store needs. The free express review tells you which option fits before you pay anything.
What is included in the Shopify SEO audit?
We review your collection and product templates, indexing and duplicate URLs, Product and Offer markup, speed and app code, internal links, and Markets or hreflang if you sell in several languages. You get a prioritized list your developer can follow.
What does monthly Shopify SEO management include?
Every month we fix technical issues from the audit, build or rework collections for real search demand, write collection and product texts, check speed and apps, and send you a report. The number of collections and texts depends on the plan: from 2 collections and 5 texts a month up to 8 collections and 20 texts.
Can I buy just the audit, without a monthly contract?
Yes. The audit is a one-off purchase. You can hand the report to your developer, or ask us to quote the work separately.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No. Monthly management runs month to month, and you can stop it with 30 days' notice. The audit is a one-time purchase with nothing to cancel.
Do I need the audit before monthly management?
For Catalog and Markets, yes: the audit report becomes the plan we work through month by month. Base can start right after the express review, since a small store rarely needs a full audit to know where to begin.
Do you build links to my store?
No. Link building is not part of any plan. We work on the store itself: its structure, collections, texts and internal links. If an external link is worth having, we will point it out in the report.
Do you make the fixes in the theme, or only report them?
The audit gives your developer clear instructions. In monthly management we make the changes ourselves if you give us access, or work with your developer if they own the theme.
What access do you need from me?
Read-only access to Search Console and Google Analytics, plus a collaborator account to your store with only the permissions the work needs. You never share your password, we sign a data processing agreement first, and you remove access when the work ends.

Shopify specifics

Is Shopify good for SEO, and what are its limits?
Yes, with limits. Shopify generates a sitemap and sets canonical tags for you, and those basics work. The limits are fixed URL prefixes, markup written by the theme, code added by apps, and duplicate paths from variants and collections. Most of them can be worked around once you know where they are.
Is Shopify SEO different from regular e-commerce SEO?
The ranking principles are the same. The difference is the platform: a fixed URL structure, theme-generated markup, app code and Markets decide what you can change and how.
Can you change Shopify's /products/ and /collections/ URLs?
Not on a standard storefront. Shopify fixes the prefixes /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/. You control the handle after the prefix, the collection logic, internal links and redirects when a handle changes.
How do you fix duplicate content from variants and collection URLs?
We check that every variant and every /collections/…/products/… path points to the main product page with a correct canonical tag, and that the theme links to that page directly. Then we look at filter and sort URLs that should stay out of the index.
Do tags on Shopify help SEO?
Rarely on their own. Tags open filtered collection pages that often repeat existing collections. We keep the ones with real search demand and a page worth landing on.
Can I edit robots.txt on Shopify?
Yes, through the robots.txt.liquid template in your theme. Shopify's default file works for most stores. We change it only to block low-value filter and search URLs, and we compare the result with the original before it goes live.
Do SEO apps and page speed matter?
Apps can speed up repetitive work like alt text or redirects. They cannot fix structure, and each one adds code that can slow every page. In the audit we count what each app costs in speed against what it does for you.
Is Shopify Plus better for SEO than a regular plan?
Not by itself. Plus gives more control over checkout and operations, but the storefront's SEO limits are mostly the same. We work with stores on both.
How do Shopify Markets and several languages affect SEO?
Markets can create separate URLs per country or language. Shopify generates hreflang tags from your setup, but custom URLs and translation apps can break them. We check that each version has matching hreflang and canonical tags so Google shows the right one in each market.
What should happen to out-of-stock and discontinued products?
Products that will come back stay live with clear availability. Products removed for good redirect to the closest live product, and pages with no traffic or links can return 404.

Migration

How do I keep my rankings when moving to Shopify?
Map every old URL to its new Shopify address with a 301 redirect, move titles and descriptions with the page, and check indexing after launch. We keep a crawl of the old store so we can compare before and after.
Do you help with migrations from WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Shoper or IdoSell?
Yes, on the SEO side: the redirect map, moving metadata and the checks after launch. Building the new store is a separate job.

Results and how we measure

How long does Shopify SEO take to work?
It depends on your competition, the current state of the store and what we fix. Some technical fixes are picked up within weeks, while collection and content work builds over months. We do not promise timing or positions.
Do you guarantee rankings or traffic?
No. Google decides rankings. What we guarantee is the work itself: every change is documented, and the report shows what was done and why.
How do you measure and report progress?
We track indexed pages, non-brand clicks and impressions, and orders and revenue from organic search, and compare them with the baseline taken at the start.
Do you have Shopify case studies?
Not yet. We show audit samples and our e-commerce work, and we say so openly instead of calling other work Shopify results.
Does AI search matter for a Shopify store?
Clean product data and clear collection pages help both classic search and AI answers read your store correctly. If you want to know how AI assistants describe your brand, that is our separate AI Visibility Audit.

Is it for me

Do I need a Shopify SEO agency, or can I do it myself?
You can do the basics yourself: titles, descriptions, alt text and the sitemap are all in the Shopify admin. An agency pays off when the problem is structural, such as variant duplicates, collection architecture, Markets or a migration. If the store is new and the catalog small, it may be too early, and the express review will tell you so.
Do I need SEO if I already run Google Ads?
Ads stop when the budget stops, while organic pages keep bringing visitors. The same product and collection pages are also where your ad clicks land, so fixing them helps both.
How is this different from your e-commerce SEO audit?
The e-commerce SEO audit fits any platform. This service is built around Shopify problems and adds monthly management. If you only need a platform-neutral check, the e-commerce audit is enough.

Not what you need?

For a platform-neutral store audit, see E-commerce SEO. Paid Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are Google Ads for E-commerce. How AI assistants describe your brand is the AI Visibility Audit.
