SEO audit executive summary: the first page of the report

This is the opening part of an SEO site audit report: the scope that was crawled, the findings that matter most, and the order they should be fixed in. It is written for an owner who needs the decision, with the full evidence kept in the body of the report.

Example, not a client's data

The situation here is invented. Picture an online store with a catalog of about a thousand products, one language, a recent theme update and a marketing owner who is not a developer. Questions started after the category structure was rebuilt. There is no real client and no real site: every example below points at example.com.

What was reviewed

The audit covers the same blocks on every project, so one report can be compared with the next. This sample lists the blocks and leaves out the raw exports that sit behind them.

  • Crawl of the whole site with a desktop and a mobile user agent, plus a render check on the templates that carry the main content.
  • Indexing: which URLs Google knows about, which are excluded, and for which stated reason.
  • Core Web Vitals on the templates that matter, read from field data where it exists and from lab runs where it does not.
  • On page layer: titles, headings, whether the page answers the query it targets, internal links, and duplication between near identical pages.
  • Backlink profile: anchor distribution, the domains behind the links, and anything that looks bought rather than earned.
  • Competitors in the same result pages: what they cover that the site does not, and where the gap can realistically be closed.

Findings, ranked

Every row in the real report links to its evidence: the crawl export, the URL list and a screenshot. Priority is a judgment about impact against effort, and it is written down so it can be argued with.

The plan in three horizons

The order is not a wish list. Everything that blocks crawling, rendering or indexing comes first, because content and link work has no effect while a page cannot be read correctly.

  • Month 1: host consolidation, canonical rules on filters, server rendered product copy, sitemap regenerated. None of this needs new content.
  • Month 2: title and heading templates, internal links into the deep categories, image delivery on the templates with the worst field data.
  • Month 3: category copy that answers the question behind the query, product markup completed, the backlink review closed out.
  • Throughout: a crawl after each release, so a fix that shipped and was then reverted is noticed in days rather than next quarter.

How priority is decided

  • Critical means Google cannot read, reach or trust the page. It is fixed first regardless of how much traffic that page has today.
  • High means the page is read but presented poorly, or the demand it should serve goes to a weaker page on the same site.
  • Medium is hygiene: real, worth doing, and safe to schedule after the first two groups.
  • Effort is estimated with your team in mind. When impact is close, a change that needs one template edit outranks a change that needs a data migration.

What the audit itself does not cover

  • Writing the content. The report says which page needs an answer and what that answer has to address, not the finished text.
  • Shipping the fixes. Implementation is a separate service, and many owners hand the report to their own developer instead.
  • Paid search, social ads and email, unless the combined package is ordered.
  • Anything that rests on a promise about rankings. The report describes causes and fixes, not outcomes.

Synthetic example, not a client's data

  • Every finding here is invented to cover a common class of issue. A real report ranks what your site actually has, and the list is usually shorter in some blocks and longer in others.
  • The evidence is missing on purpose: a real report carries crawl exports, URL lists and screenshots behind each row.
  • No measured values appear anywhere in this sample, so nothing on this page should be read as a benchmark.
  • Scope is agreed before the work starts, so the block list on a real project follows the package you order.

A real summary sits in front of the full report: evidence for every row, a specification per fix, and a walkthrough call where the priorities are gone through together. The package that fits your site is described on the service page.
